About us

The Seale Arms makes a perfect base for exploring the beauty Dartmouth has to offer, providing you with high quality accommodation. Located within a few minutes of the water front and close to amenities.

We offer high quality accommodation right in heart of Dartmouth. Located within a few minutes of the water front and close to amenities. The Seale family came to Dartmouth from Jersey in 1720 and lived in Dartmouth until 1870. During much of this time they used the coat of arms granted to Robert Seale of Northumberland, who was Clerk of the Cheque of Guards (Beefeaters) and this is the coat of arms that is reproduced in the pictorial sign of the Seale Arms today. It was the Seale family who built the local steam railway as well as a number of other local buildings, including the Old Mill Castle which was built in the early 19th century and saved from dereliction by the kind volunteer work of the naval cadets from Britannia Royal Naval College. It can be found in 11 hectares of woodland called Sansquay Wood behind the Naval College within an area that has recently been brought into woodland management as a community recreation area and incorporates a network of footpaths.

The Seale Arms makes a perfect base for exploring the beauty the Dartmouth has to offer and we will look forward to welcoming you.

We have just stayed for a long weekend at The Seale Arms and would highly recommend. Upon arrival, we were politely greeted by the bar person Charlotte, whom checked us into our room. The rooms are very spacious and clean, the bed was of a superior quality with a really good mattress topped with luxurious bedding and pillows. When in the bar area, the bar Managers Craig and David were extremely friendly, Craig was able to talk about the town and gave us great tips on where to go and information about the boat trips and places to eat. David discussed the ales available and their very own Seale Arms Ale was delightful. The staff here made our stay, it has a great atmosphere and we had a right laugh. The location was just perfect for getting around. We will definitely return.

Large spotless rooms (we booked two) in a traditional pub. Excellent, comfortable bed. Friendly staff and easy walking access to the town. Great value based on some of the other rooms in the town. Get a room at the back if you can (they have a band that plays until 11pm at the weekend) and use the park and ride (drop off point is a couple of minutes away) as all parking in town is tricky. Happy to give it 5stars

Ideal location .We had 3 rooms for 2 nights for a family get together. The well decorated rooms were all large and mine had an enormous bathroom .Large comfy beds and spotlessly clean. Only drawback was the music on the Saturday night, but we had advanced warning and finished by 11.30.
